As I have been writing white papers for a while, I decided that to write a white paper about how to write a white paper. This may help Marketing Managers and Sales people to help their sales efforts.  Please note that in this specific article I do not follow my own guidelines on how to write a white paper as this article is not meant to sell and convince but rather to educate and guide. I hope you will forgive me for that.

What is a white paper?

A white paper is nothing but a glorified report with two distinct purposes

1.      inform and educate
2.      persuade

 

In an effort to inform and protect a user's information, Google recently enforced a policy to all websites advertising with them. All pages on a website collecting personal and financial information via a form require a privacy policy.

Canada's privacy commissioner is targeting internet marketing companies. In case you didn't know, companies such as Google are increasingly tracking all the behavior of web users in order to make their advertising more effective and more relevant to their interests. For example if you use free Gmail, Google will read your e-mail looking for key words that can be used to advertise specific products or services to you. For example if you mention in your e-mail that you have a cold, you may find more advertising for cold medicine as you browse the Internet.
